Never have to be alone
Music is a wonderful gift from God and a powerful tool in the hands of mankind. Instrumental music can minister to the soul like it did when David played for Saul (see 1 Samuel 16:14-23). However, the lyrics of a song can do amazing things in the hearts and minds of the listeners. This is very important to me as a music minister because what causes transformation in the hearts and minds of people is God’s truth expressed in song.
Yesterday, I stumbled on a song by CeCe Winans titled ‘Never Have to be Alone’.

I love CeCe Winans’ songs but, even though this was an old song, I’d never heard it before! I fell in love with it and began listening to it over and over again. I love the simple music, interesting chord progressions, and the message.
As I listened to it for the umpteenth time, the lyrics ministered deeply to me. I was able to look back at my life’s journey and see that, indeed, God has never left me. I know this already but it was an opportunity to be reminded – I never have to be alone.
More than that, I was overwhelmed by God’s love and faithfulness towards me; by the truth that even if every single human being deserts me, God will NEVER leave me alone. I wept for joy. What a privilege to have this kind of love relationship with the Creator of the heavens and the earth!
Even if my father and mother abandon me, the Lord will hold me close.
Psalm 27:10 NLT
“Can a mother forget the baby at her breast and have no compassion on the child she has borne? Though she may forget, I will not forget you!
Isaiah 49:15 NIV
God will never abandon us. If He feels distant, it’s because we moved away from His loving arms. He’s always waiting with His arms open to receive us so if we’ve wandered off or purposely moved away because we were offended by something He did or didn’t do, we can run back boldly. We can see a picture painted of Heavenly Father’s heart in the story of the prodigal son (Luke 15:11-24).
This young man did the unthinkable in asking for his inheritance while his father was still alive. Having squandered it in wild living, he came to his senses and decided to return home. He returned to meet a loving father who ran to meet him and celebrated his return.
Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”
Matthew 28:20 NLT
God is not like a man whose commitment to you wavers with varying circumstances and emotions. God is committed to as many as have come to Him through Christ Jesus. This should give us the confidence to put our trust in Him completely. He’s a good Father.
Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.”
Hebrews 13:5 ESV
If you’re discouraged today, going from battle to battle, please be encouraged. Suffering and pain are part of life in this fallen, sinful world but in Christ, we can find comfort like nobody else can give.
I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.”
John 16:33 NLT
He even helps us come out of it better than we went into it – stronger in faith, looking more like Him, and able to comfort others.
3 All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is our merciful Father and the source of all comfort. 4 He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. When they are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us.
2 Corinthians 1:3-4 NLT
Our Father loves us with an indescribable, unfailing love and we never have to be alone.
